Destinique started out in yes, you guessed it, Destin, Florida! It’s our home base and the town closest to our hearts. And with good reason, as you’ll find out! So to start our brand new blog, we had to begin with the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” as it’s universally known. But Destin is much more than a place to fish – it’s a vacationer’s dream come true. With its sugar-white sands, emerald-green waters, and a vibe that’s equal parts relaxed and exciting, it’s no wonder this Gulf Coast gem is a top pick for travelers. This paradise has it all. To make your life, and planning, a whole lot easier, we’ve created this guide to Destin Florida Beaches so you don’t have to miss out on any of the fun. Enjoy!
Destin Florida Beaches: Among the Most Beautiful in the World
The Destin area is made up of different beaches, which can be confusing if you haven’t visited the area before. But they all have one thing in common – the white, squeaky sand the emerald green and turquoise waters. So, let’s explain them. Destin starts at the magnificent Harbor. Coming over the bridge heading eastbound the sight of the Harbor will take your breath away. Turquoise waters that look like they belong in the Caribbean stretch as far as the eye can see on both sides of the bridge. Boats of all kinds will be voyaging in and out, and you might even spy a dolphin. And so the magic of Destin begins. On your left you will notice Crab Island: this is THE place for a vibrant on-the-water experience. Rent a boat (or even a floating tiki bar) or take a shuttle to this sandbar, where you’ll find a floating party of boats, inflatable obstacle courses, and floating restaurants. It’s becoming one of Destin’s must-do experiences.
On your right you can’t help but notice the Emerald Grande at HarborWalk Village, as it stands tall and proud looking out over the Harbor. This is an enormous hotel with what has to be the best views in town, it’s simply stunning. The Village below is full of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.
Discover the Magic of Destin Harbor
Take in the sights and sounds of one of the most beautiful harbors in the country. Destin Harbor is the place to be, with fireworks, world-class restaurants serving seafood fresh from the boat, live music, magicians, food trucks, unique shopping (let’s go fly a kite!), and exciting activities like jet ski rentals, dolphin cruises, and fishing charters. Stroll along the boardwalk and marvel at the gorgeous boats and yachts. If you come in the Fall, two must-dos are the famous Fishing Rodeo and the Seafood Festival.
The Fishing Rodeo takes place all through the month of October. You can join a boat and take part in the competition, or just come to witness the exciting weigh-ins all day long from 10am to 7pm.
The Destin Seafood Festival kicks off the Fishing Rodeo in September. It’s a community event with seafood galore from all the surrounding restaurants. There’s also music, entertainment, and arts and crafts. Not to be missed.
Destin Harbor truly has it all!
Holiday Isle
Continuing on our tour of Destin, the area at the other side of the Harbor on the Gulf is called Holiday Isle. It begins with Noriega Point, the perfect place for a quiet beach day. Here you’ll find incredible views of Destin Harbor, the East Pass as it comes in through the jetties, the boats that come and go throughout your leisurely day, and the opportunity to snorkel the jetties and see a myriad of fish. You’ll also have access to Gulf beaches right around the corner from the Point. In the morning, it’s always fun to grab a cup of coffee and a fresh donut and watch the Harbor come alive as the day begins. There are a multitude of condos and homes, Gulf-side and Harbor-side. Tucked away on Holiday Isle is one of Destin’s most famous restaurants, Louisiana Lagniappe. Here you can watch the sun set over the Harbor while you enjoy wonderful cocktails and fresh seafood cooked with a Cajun flair! Delicious!
Downtown Destin
Right after Holiday Isle comes Destin proper, often called Downtown Destin or Mid-Destin. Of course, here are more homes and condos on the beach, and some across Highway 98. It’s a great area for families with kiddos as it also contains Big Kahuna’s Water and Adventure Park and The Track amusement park where you can enjoy go-carts, mini golf, and other rides for children. Here you’ll also find many restaurants, ice cream shops, and breakfast nooks, including the legendary Donut Hole. For beachfront dining, everyone heads to The Back Porch. There are places to rent jet skis, paddleboards, etc. And for your grocery needs, there’s a Publix and Winn Dixie close by.
Crystal Beach
The next beach to come along is called Crystal Beach. However, the Henderson Beach State Park is sandwiched between Downtown Destin and CrystalBeach and is a destination all on its own! It’s a State Park so it’s protected from development, so you can camp here peacefully and enjoy pure relaxation, picnics, fishing, and nature trails. It’s also a popular venue for weddings and family reunions.
The Henderson Park Inn is also to be found here – a luxury adults-only hotel with a fine restaurant. It also has a fabulous spa called The Salamander if you want to pamper yourself. Across Highway 98 there is a Walmart where you can find all your beach-going needs, and a Fresh Market.
Crystal Beach is one of the most beloved of Destin Florida Beaches. There are many public beach access points for those that aren’t staying right on the beach, and a multitude of services. Camille’s is a favorite café just across the street from the beach. Not to be missed.
Signature Beach and The Inn at Crystal Beach are two of the most desirable places to lodge if you’re looking for Gulf-front luxury. The Inn also has it’s own modern, coastal restaurant, Soleil, for first-class beachfront dining. Both condos are highly recommended.
Destin Commons is right across Highway 98. This is a destination all in itself! It’s a retail village made up of avenues lined with royal palm trees, a classic fountain, and more. There are fashion boutiques, shoe shops, specialty stores, restaurants with casual bars, and an AMC multiplex movie theater. Famous shops you’ll love to visit are Whole Foods supermarket and Bass Pro Shop.
There’s another Publix grocery store in Crystal Beach and the Emerald Bay Golf Club.
Miramar Beach
Crystal Beach flows right into Miramar Beach. And this is where you will pass into Walton County from Okaloosa County. Right at Capt. Dave’s on the Gulf – a landmark seafood restaurant. Miramar Beach has it all. Restaurants galore, including the famous Pompano Joe’s, The Surf Hut, The Crab Trap and The Whale’s Tail – all Gulf-front. There are more golf courses, check out the one at Seascape. You can play tennis here, too. There is a snorkeling reef deployed offshore from Pompano Joe’s if you want to get up close and personal with sea life. It’s so much fun.
Need a place to stay? There are condos, beach homes, hotels and motels, and RV parks – something for every budget. And check out the amazing Seascape Resort. It’s not just golf, tennis and vacation rentals! It has a new Town Centre full of shops, restaurants, wine and coffee shops, cafes, amusements for the kids, and music and comedy venues. And it’s free to park there!
Love to shop? Miramar Beach has got you covered. Make your way to Silver Sands Premium Outlets, right on Highway 98. It boasts over 100 designer and brand outlet stores including Coach, Columbia, Adidas, Banana Republic, Crocs, Disney, and so much more. There’s everything from clothing and shoes to sunglasses, housewares, and sporting goods. You’ll also find coffee shops, bakeries, pizzerias, ice cream shops, and restaurants.
Sandestin
Right next to Miramar Beach comes Sandestin. This is the last part of the Destin area as a whole. After Sandestin there is no development at all until you get to the start of the 30A area at Santa Rosa Beach. Sandestin is really known for five things: the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort (which has been there forever), the Tops’l Beach and Racquet Resort right next door, the Village of Baytowne Wharf (which is part of the Sandestin Resort), Grand Boulevard, and the Topsail Nature Reserve.
The Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort
Probably the best-known resort in Destin, this resort is a top destination and covers over 2,000 acres. It starts on the Choctawhatchee Bay, crossing Highway 98, and continuing right to the Gulf’s pristine beaches. It’s made up of:
-
- Over 70 neighborhoods of condominiums, villas, townhomes, and estates.
-
- Miles of the Emerald Coast’s most beautiful beaches.
-
- 15 courts for tennis.
-
- Four championship golf courses and golf packages.
-
- 4 resort pools and 15 private pools for individual communities.
-
- A bay-front marina with 113 boat-slips.
-
- A fitness center and spa
-
- Shops and restaurants.
-
- Meeting spaces and wedding venues.
-
- Clubs for tennis, golf, fitness, beach, and kids.
-
- Watersports including fishing and paddleboarding.
-
- Firework displays, outdoor movies, and live entertainment.
-
- Nature parks.
The Village of Baytowne Wharf
In addition, on the bay-side of Highway 98, the magical Village of Baytowne Wharf is also a part of the Sandestin Resort. It’s a lively, picturesque area perfect for an afternoon or evening stroll. This charming village features cobblestone streets, a marina, waterfront views, and a mix of shops, restaurants, and entertainment. It’s a go-to place for families who can wander the traffic-free streets and enjoy the sights. You can browse unique boutiques, enjoy live music, or dine at one of the many eateries offering everything from casual bites to fine dining.
With its laid-back vibe and scenic setting, Baytowne Wharf is the perfect spot for a relaxing day or a fun night out. You can even head to the marina and take a sunset dinner cruise on one of the beautiful boats or yachts docked there. It’s a perfect way to wind down after a busy day at the beach.
If you stay at the Sandestin Resort, a complimentary tram will take you from the beach-side to the bay-side all day long. You can also ride bikes to get over there or use your golf cart.
Tops’l Beach and Racquet Resort
Right next door to the Sandestin Resort is the Tops’l Beach and Racquet Resort. This is another huge beach resort spanning 52 private acres with multiple accommodation types, much like Sandestin. Instead of golf, they specialize in tennis. There is only the Topsail Hill Preserve State Park on the other side of Tops’l, which makes it very special. Guests can roam deserted beaches and the views down the east coastline are some of the best of Destin Florida Beaches. There are restaurants onsite, a tiki bar, a large fitness area, a racquetball court, of course multiple tennis courts, multiple pools, and a spa.
Grand Boulevard
Virtually opposite these two huge resorts, and still in Sandestin, is a huge shopping and dining area called Grand Boulevard. Here you will find local boutiques, specialty shops, dining, hotels, and offices. It is known for its upscale feel, and the restaurants are top notch. P.F.Chang’s is here, along with Emeril’s Coastal, Fleming’s, Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar, and many others. There are a multitude of upscale shops, along with wine bars, breweries, ice cream delights, fabulous hotels, fitness centers, and a movie theatre.
Scattered here and there in Sandestin are also some hidden restaurants you don’t want to miss. A favorite is Louis Louis. It’s an eclectic indoor/outdoor spot with great food, live music, and colorful art-filled walls. It’s unique.
As you leave Sandestin and head east you will quickly see that all development disappears as unspoiled scenery unfolds before you. You have left Destin! The 1600-acre Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is right here, along with three lakes, Fuller, Morris, and Campbell. The park stretches all the way to where Highway 30a veers off Highway 98 to the right and starts a whole new area for tourists to explore. Our Ultimate Guide to 30a is coming so watch out for that. Activities at the park include hiking, bird-watching, paddleboarding, and use of pristine beaches away from the madding crowd. Accommodations include camping and RV sites, bungalows, and cabins.
Unique Experiences You Can’t Miss
Now you know how Destin is laid out, it’s time to get to the fun. And there’s plenty of it. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer:

Bonfires on the Beach
Though the beaches in Destin generally do not allow bonfires, some places permit these cozy gatherings. Roast marshmallows, share stories, and soak up the magical atmosphere of a beach night. Check with local regulations and permit requirements before planning your bonfire. Local companies can be hired to bring you the whole event…you just show up!
Live Music and Waterfront Entertainment
From local bands playing at waterfront bars to lively concerts, Destin has a vibrant music scene. Catch live performances along HarborWalk Village, at the Village of Baytowne Wharf, at Tailfins, Lulu’s, McGuire’s Irish Pub, Seascape Towne Centre, Cabana Café, Club LA, Boathouse Oyster Bar, the Harbor Tavern, Graffiti and the Funky Blues Shack, Ocean Club, the Village Door, AJ’s Club Bimini, and more. Waterfront restaurants abound in Destin. In fact, there are so many that we’re in the middle of producing our Guide to Eating in Destin. Coming soon!
Glow Paddleboarding
Experience Destin’s waters after dark with glow paddleboarding. LED-lit boards illuminate the water beneath you, creating a magical evening adventure that’s both serene and exciting.
Go Parasailing
Get a bird’s-eye view of the Destin Florida Beaches with a parasailing adventure. Soar up to 400 feet above the gorgeous Gulf and take in stunning views of the shoreline and marine life from a unique perspective.
Ride a Banana Boat!
Have you seen one? You won’t forget it if you have! A huge, yellow banana with seats all along it. Get towed out to sea and be pulled through the waves. The splashing water feels great and you’ll laugh until your sides hurt! Don’t forget your life jacket!
Adventure Awaits
As you can see, the magnificent Gulf is what it’s all about in Destin. Yes, the food and entertainment is amazing, but people come for the WATER! Here’s a list of all the other things you can do on the deep blue sea!
Fishing
Destin’s fishing reputation is legendary. Remember, it’s called “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” Take a walk along the Harbor and see the myriad of fishing boats lined up waiting to take you way out past the jetties into the real Gulf for some deep-sea fishing. Join a charter where you can reel in snapper, grouper, mahi-mahi, and more. For a more relaxed experience, fish off the Okaloosa Island Pier just six miles to the west of Destin Harbor. And many people love to fish right off the beach in front of where they are staying. If you’re in a high-rise, you’ll see the shoals of fish down below…and the dolphins chasing them. Walk along the beach first thing in the morning and see the water just boiling where the shoals roam the Gulf. It’s quite a sight.
Dolphin Cruises
You simply cannot come to Destin and NOT take a dolphin cruise. Go to the Harbor and hop aboard all kinds of different boats that will take you out to sea to watch playful pods swimming alongside the boat. You’ll see them dance as they jump right out of the water, they really love to perform. It’s a magical sight you’ll never forget. Choose the pirate ship for fun for the kids, it fires its cannon as it comes back to port! It’s loud! The Sea Blaster will whizz you around and up and down the coast – it’s impossible not to see a dolphin. You might also see rays and sea turtles. For something extra special, opt for a sunset cruise where you can enjoy dolphins and dazzling Gulf Coast skies.
Snorkeling and Wreck Diving
Discover a world of underwater wonder with snorkeling and scuba diving excursions. The Gulf is home to incredible artificial reefs, including sunken ships, tanks, and barges teeming with marine life. If you drive around Holiday Isle and walk out to Noriega Point, you can even snorkel right off the beach at the jetties. It’s a popular adventure where the waters are calm.
Rent a Boat
If you want to sail around the Harbor, venture into the Choctawhatchee Bay, or go over to Crab Island, you’ll need to rent your own boat or hire a captain to take you. You can get any kind of vessel, from pontoon boats and jet skis to floating tiki bars! We kid you not! Those are best hired with a captain, all that sun and alcohol don’t really mix. And you’ve got to get home! Of course, you’re on your own when you disembark! If Crab Island isn’t your thing, boats help you visit secluded beaches where you can anchor for a picnic on the water with families and friends. It’s a much more peaceful experience.
Tee-Off in Paradise: Golfing in Destin
Although the majority of people come to Destin for the Gulf, some enthusiasts come for the golf. They’ll most likely swim, take a boat ride, and dine at some wonderful restaurants, but their days won’t be complete without a visit to one of the world-class courses, designed by legends like Robert Trent Jones and Tom Fazio. Golfers can enjoy stunning views and challenging holes. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, Destin’s courses offer something for every skill level.

Helicopter Tours: See Destin from the Sky
For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, book a private helicopter tour and take in breathtaking aerial views of the coastline. It’s an extraordinary way to see Destin from a whole new perspective. Fly over crystal-clear waters, sugar-white sands, and the bustling Harbor for an unforgettable aerial experience. Whether you choose a quick tour or a longer ride, the panoramic views of the Emerald Coast are sure to impress.
If you prefer a small airplane to a helicopter, go over to Lulu’s restaurant on the Bay. You can pick up a plane here and it will fly you around and bring you right back! Lulu’s is run by Jimmy Buffett’s sister Lucy and has its own beach on the Bay. Her own touch of coastal cuisine is delicious.

Savor the Fresh Seafood
The Gulf waters offer an abundance of fresh catches, and oysters are a local favorite. Whether raw on the half shell, grilled, or baked, you’ll find delicious oysters at many waterfront restaurants, along with shrimp, grouper, and snapper. Popular spots like Dewey Destin’s and The Boathouse Oyster Bar serve up some of the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste, making it a must-try experience for anyone visiting the Emerald Coast. And don’t forget Harbor Docks. When the fishing fleet brings in their catches of the day, they offload them here and the fish and shrimp are then distributed to all the restaurants and seafood markets in town. It’s a great place to start.
Fine Dining
Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood in the Sandestin Resort, an AAA Four-Diamond restaurant, is known for its impeccable cuts of steak and exceptional seafood dishes. If you prefer dining with a breathtaking view, Marina Café on Destin Harbor offers an upscale menu with a waterfront setting, perfect for a romantic evening. Fleming’s in Grand Boulevard is also known for steaks.
For those staying in private beach villas, a personal chef experience is the ultimate indulgence. Many high-end rentals offer in-house chef services, bringing gourmet meals directly to your dining table.
Because there are so many fabulous eateries in Destin, we’ve decided we need to produce our own Guide to Eating in Destin. There’s just too many to mention here. Watch this space!

Conclusion
Destin is where Destinique owner Diane Bell calls home. She says: “The first time I visited Destin, I was absolutely in awe. I had no idea beaches like this even existed in the U.S.! It’s the closest thing to Caribbean waters—and in some ways, even better. The sand is unbelievably soft and sugar-white, with no rocks, seaweed, or shells—just pristine, powdery perfection. The ocean is a stunning emerald blue-green, sometimes calm like a lake, other times rolling with waves fit for surfers. The water is so clear, you can watch fish swim right around your feet. Add in all the great restaurants and fun, family activities and you have a destination that has it all.”

Whether you’re indulging in a day of fun on its pristine beaches, exploring the lively HarborWalk Village, or enjoying world-class dining, Destin offers something for everyone.
